"Cross-Sit Switch" Before Learning
Movement before a Powerful You lesson increases blood flow to the brain, which helps with focus and attention. Five minutes of directed movement improves student behavior and allows you to crush your lesson objective. One fun way to do this is to teach the cross-sit switch. Watch the video and follow these simple steps.
Sit cross legged on the floor with adequate space for movement. Notice your tall spine that twists and bends.
Recognize the leg that is on top while in cross sit positiion. Place the opposite arm behind you and press your hand into the ground. Simultaneously, press your feet down to lift your body one inch off the ground. Practice rooting down to lift your body up several times and feel the strength in your arms.
Now, twist and place both hands behind you to swivel your body around to a table top position. Come back to a that same cross sit position.
Next, alternate the leg that is on top and do the same on the other side.
Finally, go the full range as shown in the video to complete a full cross-sit switch. To begin you might need to lower your knees to a table top in the middle as you walk yourself around. Work toward keeping your knees off the ground while swiveling your body to the other side.
