Breathe and Stretch Club members place mats in a straight line and practice breathing together.

·      QUIET: Enter room quietly.  

·      MATS: Place mats in straight lines (large group) or circle. 

·      SHOES: Place socks inside shoes/line shoes orderly. If not using mats, students must keep shoes on.

·      INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Breathe and stretch on mats until start-up chime rings.

·      TOGETHER: After chime, take 5 deep breaths together. 

·       RULES: Keep lips closed, eyes focused on one spot, ears listening, and body aware of personal space.  

·       INHALE: Inhale positive thoughts such as kindness, focusing, listening, friendship, self-control or gratitude.

·       EXHALE: Exhale complaining, negative thoughts, distractions, or meanness.

·       SUN SALUTATIONS: Complete 3 Sun Salutations   

·       BOOK: Read one lesson from Breathe & Stretch on the Beach. Practice pose together. Repeat self-talk in unison and then quietly in head.  

·      OPEN MOVEMENT:  Dance or move with scarves, beach balls, or ties while music plays. When the music stops, freeze and “strike a yoga pose.”

·      STUDENT TEACHER: If time permits, allow members to teach a new pose.  

·      REST & RELAX: At ending chime, rest quietly in starfish pose for 5 breaths.

·      ORGANIZATION: Clean, roll, and put mats back in their home.

·     HOMEWORK:

1.   Teach a parent or sibling deep breathing.

2.  Remind an angry friend to breathe.

3.  Use positive self-talk during difficult times.

4.  Practice breathing and stretching before bedtime, first thing in the morning, or when feelings are strong.

EXITING: As exiting, repeat the lesson’s positive self
