Manatee Brain Break
It is always an exciting and special day when anyone gets to see a manatee in the Florida waters. Integrate an environmental lesson while giving students self-regulation fun. Here are some simple facts you can share:
Manatees are aquatic herbivores (plant-eaters). They are often called a “sea cow” due to their eating habits.
Manatees have two fore limb flippers that they use for steering movements and to hold vegetation while eating.
Adult manatees are typically 9-10 feet long from snout to tail and weigh around 1,000 pounds.
Please obey all speed zone signs and look out for manatees when boating. Do not feed or water a wild manatee! If you spot an injured manatee do not try to help it. Call 1-888-404-FWCC.
